Ashlar | See Introduction |
Bag Finish | A textured finish achieved by applying a bag or similar material to a rendered surface whilst it is still wet. |
Cavetto | A style of stone mullion |
Coping | A parapet, raised above the roof level, forming the top of a gable-wall |
Corbel | A weight-bearing projection of stone or wood |
Dripstone | A moulding projecting above a window or door, designed to keep off the rain |
Finial | An ornament, usually of stone, on the apex or gable of a roof |
Firemark | A metal badge or shield affixed to an external wall to show tha the building was insured against fire by an insurance company (before the formation of municipal fire brigades |

Kneeler | A ledge above a corbel, sometimes bearing a finial |
Label-course or Lable-moulding | A dripstone |
Mullion | A vertical bar, of stone, wood, metal, etc., dividing the lights of a window |
Oriel | A projecting window, usually in an upper storey, supported by corbels |
Ovolo | A style of stone mullion |
Quoin | A stone forming a corner or angle |

Soffit | The under -surface of overhanging eaves |
Transom | A horizontal bar dividing the lights of a window |
